Diestel Smoked Turkey Thighs and Potato Soup

Don’t get us wrong—ham hock is great—but it’s no match for a Naturally Smoked Turkey Thigh. There’s not much better than this comforting soup made with Diestel Smoked Turkey Thighs and Potatoes.

  • 1 Diestel Natural Smoked Turkey Thigh
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1onion (chopped)
  • 1 carrot (peeled and chopped)
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp italian seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 2 russet potatoes (peeled and diced)
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Parsley (chopped for garnish)
  • Oyster crackers (for garnish) Note: Skip garnish to make gluten-free


  1. In a large soup pot, melt the butter over medium heat and saute onion and carrot for 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in the garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Season with herbs and pepper flakes.
  4. Add the Diestel Naturally Smoked Turkey Thigh, chicken broth and potatoes. Bring to a boil.
  5. Turn heat down and simmer for 15 minutes.
  6. Remove Turkey Thigh and dice turkey meat. Return meat back to the soup.
  7. Add the heavy cream and stir until well combined.
  8. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  9. Serve soup in bowls and garnish with parsley and oyster crackers.
