15 Turkey Frank Toppings to Make Your Dog Sing

Posts Wednesday, July 22nd

Could we talk “hot dogs” for a hot second?

We’re not talking about those pale, whipped, mystery meat dogs you picture when somebody says “turkey franks.” Those franks, frankly, aren’t worth the buns they’re on.

No, we’re talking about those meaty, mouthwatering turkey franks that forever changed your opinion on what turkey can taste like. You know—we’re talking about Diestel franks.

If you know, then you know how good a turkey frank can be. In case you haven’t heard—or if you’re looking for new ways to take your hot dog to new heights—we thought we’d share a few (okay, 15) of our favorite ways to turn your turkey frank up to an 11.

  1. It’s all about the bun-jamins: Ok, technically this isn’t a topping, but listen: buns make all the difference. (Just ask Sir Mix-a-Lot.) Choose one that makes your dog the hero (read: the smaller, the better). If you have a local bakery, grab some brioche buns for the ultimate complement.
  2. Caramelized Onions: Trade out those sharp ‘n spicy raw onions for some sweet, sweet caramelized onion heaven.
  3. It’s Crunch Time: Make it a big deal with dill pickle and cucumber spears, along with sliced tomatoes, sweet relish and picked peppers
  4. Turkey Chili & Cheese: There isn’t anything better than topping your turkey with a little turkey. (Extra credit for all those Fritos toppers out there!)
  5. Hatch Green Chilis: If you aren’t familiar with hatch green chilis—the green chili of all chilis—look it up. You can thank us later.
  6. Hey Clam: We know it sounds odd, but Parmesan cheese, clams, mozzarella and fried garlic is just out-of-control good.
  7. Mango Salsa: There’s no wrong time to get a taste of the tropics. Get our recipe here.
  8. Baked Beans: It’s reminiscent of all those childhood camping trips (only, you know, better)
  9. Sauerkraut & Swiss: The simple, savory goodness of melted swiss, brown mustard, and sauerkraut. It’s heaven.
  10. Mushroom Saute: Have mushrooms, will saute. This is no time to doubt Julia Childs; the more butter, the better.
  11. Summer Tomatoes: Slice ’em up and enjoy. It’s that simple.
  12. Cream Cheese & Sriracha: Stay with me, kid. This one’s peculiarly creamy with just the right amount of heat.
  13. Charred Corn Salsa: Throw in some mayo and tomatillo wedges for a taste so sultry it’ll make your toes curl.
  14. Blue Cheese and Buffalo: Blue cheese dressing, slaw, more blue cheese and buffalo sauce. Maybe some more blue cheese.
  15. Kimchi: And more kimchi. Did we say kimchi? Kimchi. (That last one’s for safety.)
